Overview

On Saturday 21st May 2011, a group of 80 cyclists and their support team will arrive in Bantry ready to partake in the eleventh annual cycle in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. This spectacular event, which has been taking place every May since 2000, will journey the entire length of Ireland, from Mizen Head in County Cork to Malin Head in County Donegal over seven days of cycling, travelling through some of the most beautiful countryside in Ireland. The team of cyclists will include five tandems and sixty solo bikes.

This year's Mizen 2 Malin 2011 tour will commence on Saturday 21st May and will arrive at Malin Head on Saturday 28th May. Distances average at approximately 75 miles a day and our fundraising target for this year is a magnificent €100,000.

Pádraig Mallon, CEO Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, had this to say following the success of previous years:

We are delighted with the donation of €100,000 from the Mizen to Malin cycle. This is our largest contribution to date from a single event. 

The cost of providing a guide dog for a blind person is €38,000. 

The proceeds from this event have all but helped us to train three additional people with a guide dog. Through the generosity of the 99rs another 3 people
 will know the freedom and independence that a guide dog will bring.

The support of the 99rs is hugely important to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind; they attract a large number of participants but the publicity they generate
 not to mention the goodwill has contributed hugely to the profile of our organisation.

They are a great group of people whose generosity is helping many people to lead a better life.

Please reference M2M11 and the participant you’re supporting when sending donations or lodging directly. This will facilitate tracking each participants fundraising against the €1500 individual target. Irish Guide Dogs receipts are available for all donations made.

Supporters can also log onto The Irish Guidedogs Official Online Donation Service (opens external link). Once you are there, complete the form as required. Be sure to choose the event "Mizen2Malin" and then in the next box type in the name of the person you wish to sponsor.
